This short-break walking tour is a collection of different grade walks. However, none of them have a climbers rating. You will be walking along mountain ridges, meadows and valley floors, slowly descending from east to west. This is a picturesque alpine trail with stunning views at every turn.
The tour is suitable for experienced walkers with suitable equipment.

Walk highlights:
•    Stay in the tranquil mountain village of Jezersko on the Austrian border
•    Walk through ancient feudal tunnels to hidden mountain valleys
•    Visit Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj
•    Wander over the mountain pastures of Triglav National Park

Itinerary

DAY 1. ARRIVAL IN JEZERSKO.
With its idyllic location in a basin between the towering Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karawanke Mountains, on the border with Austria, the small romantic village of Jezersko will be the starting point for your hike. You will spend the next two nights here (3* hotel).

DAY 2. JEZERSKO - JEZERSKO 2 hrs* / 640 m. A warm-up hike to Česka koča mountain hut.
This short walk leads up to just above the tree line to one of the oldest alpine huts in Slovenia (100 years old), providing an outstanding view into the two parallel valleys. Your return route takes you past the lovely Shepherds Lake. (3* hotel).

DAY 3. (car transfer) JEZERSKO - PREDDVOR 6 hrs* / ascent 900 m and descent 1100 m.
Today you hike up Baseljsko Sedlo and head to the mountain hut on the Kokra saddle, where you can have lunch and enjoy views across the Kamnik-Savinja mountain range, followed by a nice stroll back down though hillside villages to Preddvor and past Črnava Lake (3* country inn).

DAY 4. PREDDVOR - TRŽIČ 4 hrs* / ascent 200 m.
Today you head west through a picture-perfect vista framed by two great mountain ranges. The trail traverses the foothills of the Karawanke mountain range with the Julian Alps forming the backdrop, typical alpine villages, broad valleys resplendent with wildflower, and Kozolec (large racks for drying hay, unique to Slovenia) (3* country inn).

DAY 5. (car transfer) TRŽIČ - BEGUNJE 4 hrs* / descent 700 m, ascent 250 m.
From Ljubelj, on the Austrian border, the trail leads through a short underground tunnel originally dug by merchants in order to reduce the travelling time between Carniola and Carinthia. As you emerge at the other side the trail then follows the old shepherd’s route before entering the peaceful Draga Valley, which takes you into the historic village of Begunje. (4* hotel).

DAY 6. BEGUNJE – BLED 5 hrs* / descent 150 m, ascent 200 m.
As the morning sunlight fills the valley, you ascend to the little church of St. Petrus; an important sentry point in the days of the Turkish raids. From here you trek along a mountain ridge with views across the Sava Valley. En-route to Bled, you could take a short diversion into the beautiful Vintgar Gorge. (4* hotel).

DAY 7: (car transfer) POKLJUKA – USKOVNICA SADLE – VOJE – LAKE BOHINJ 5 hrs, ascent 200 m. Mountain meadows & tree line walk (hotel 4*).
From the Pokljuka Plateau, you begin your hike across mountain pastures and old farmhouses to a viewing point into the Bohinj Valley. As you descend you can stop at the little historic village of Studor and see how people lived 150 years ago. Your final destination is Lake Bohinj, the jewel in the heart of the Triglav National Park.

DAY 8. End of tour or extension of stay in Bohinj.

Getting there...
Starting point of this trip is Jezersko in NW Slovenia, on the Slovene / Austrian border (google maps).
By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it.  From the airport you can travel to Jezersko by bus (change once in Kranj, takes about 2 hrs) or book our transfer (faster): 45 EUR per person, two persons minimum. Transfers need to be ordered when booking the trip.
By train: nearest railway station is in Kranj, but it is difficult to get from there to Jezersko. Honestly, it's better to take our transfer: 40 EUR per person, two persons minimum.
By car: take exit Kranj Zahod on A1 motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, Karavanke and then follow signposts to Jezersko. There is a free but unguarded parking lot in Jezersko.

By plane: need to get to the airport? Our transfer to Ljubljana airport: return to the airport from Bled - 45 EUR per person, two persons minimum.
By train: Bohinj has a railway station in Bohinjska Bistrica 5 km from your last hotel. It is on the Jesenice - Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day.
By car: if your car is in Jezersko, you can get there by local bus (change once in Kranj, travel time is around 3 hrs) or we' can transfer you for 45 € per person, two persons minimum.
