A walking holiday for fans of hiking and fly-fishing in alpine scenery. The highlights of this walk are the famous Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, along with Mt. Triglav National Park. A dedicated mountain tour through a dreamlike, picturesque landscape. Suitable for hikers of very average fitness and highly recommended for photography enthusiasts.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN KRANJSKA GORA. The famous ski resort of Kranjska Gora is the starting point for this tour; well-known for hosting the annual World Cup Slalom every January. You will spend your first night here with the imposing Julian Alps as your backdrop. (family hotel 3*).
Day 2: KRANJSKA GORA – JASNA VALLEY 16km round walk / ascent 400m. Alpine walk (family hotel 3*). Your warm up hike will take you through the lovely Jasna Valley, emerging at the other end to a magnificent view of the Prisank and Razor Mountains. A typical hikers lunch can be taken in Krnica hut. Upon return, visit the “Russian Chapel” a touching monument dedicated to Russian POWs who died during WW1 while building the military road over Vršič Pass.
Day 3: PODKOREN – TRIPLE BORDER POINT 19km round trip / ascent 640m. Forest and mountain meadows trail (hotel 3*). This walk takes you to the summit of Mt. Peč (1508m) to the triple border point where Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet. At the top you'll be greeted by a panoramic view across the Julian and Carnian Alps, with Hohe Tauern, the highest alpine range in Austria, forming a picturesque backdrop. The trail then descends through the valley to the source of the mighty Sava River, the longest in Slovenia, back to Kranjska Gora.
SOČA EMERALD RIVER FLY FISHING Or you can be transferred to the Soča Valley over Vršič pass; a very scenic drive in itself. The fly-fishing will take place in Lepena river valley. At this part of the Soča river you can experience fly-fishing amid spectacular scenery. Aside from the endemic marble trout, which is present in all of the streams, you may catch a gigantic rainbow trout also. So prepare your large streamers! Day 4: RADOVNA VALLEY – VINTGAR GORGE – LAKE BLED 11km / ascent 200m. Valley & meadow walk (**** family hotel). You will be transferred through the lush green Radovna Valley, amid soaring mountain peaks, to where the Radovna River has carved the 150m deep Vintgar Gorge. The trail leads along a wooden walkway through the gorge, beside thundering rapids culminating at the Sum Waterfall, and onwards to the world-famous Bled Lake, via the lovely Katarina Church viewpoint. Your hotel overlooks the lake.
Day 5: BLED – BOHINJSKA BELA – LAKE BLED 11km round trip / ascent 270m. Hillsides and panoramic walk (**** family hotel). Today you will take a leisurely stroll into Bled, a popular town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake, with its medieval castle standing guard over the exclusive island church from the edge of the lakeside cliff. For the best photos and views of the lake, church and castle and Karavanke mountains, ascend Straža hill. End the day with the local speciality - the cream cake "Kremšnita" - in one of the great little tea shops beside the lake.
RIVER RADOVNA & NATIONAL PARK FLY FISHING After breakfast you can be taken back to the beautiful Radovna valley. One of Europe's top fly-fishing districts, the Radovna River stretches from the bridge in Srednja Radgona to Vintgar Gorge. It is a fast-flowing alpine river with lots of deep pools, great powerful currents and huge fish. The river is full of beautiful brown trouts, rainbows and charrs. In the lower part of the river you may catch some trophy browns also. Great scenery and an abundance of fish will ensure a day won't forget. Day 6: POKLJUKA – USKOVNICA SADLE – LAKE BOHINJ 12km / ascent 200m. Mountain meadows & tree line walk (**** family hotel). You will be driven by car up to the Pokljuka Plateau where you will begin your hike across mountain pastures and rustic farmhouses to a viewing point into the beautiful Bohinj Valley. As you descend, you can stop at the little historic village of Studor and see how people lived 150 years ago. Your final destination is Lake Bohinj, a true gem in the heart of the Triglav National Park and the small, fisherman's settlement at beginning of the lake.
Day 7: LAKE BOHINJ 13km. Lakeside and valley walk (**** family hotel). Spend the day strolling around this wonderful, peaceful alpine lake setting surrounded by the immense mountains of the Julian Alps., You can swim in its crystal water. At the western end of the lake is a short trail up to Savica Waterfall, the source of the lake and the crystal clear Sava Bohinjka river. Then you can take the cable car up to the 1532m high Vogel Mountain for a perfect view of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps. Spend the evening in one of the cosy village pubs and try the local home-made honey brandy.
SAVA BOHINJKA FLY FISHING As one of the best fly-fishing territories in Europe, it is famous for its beautiful and huge brown trouts and graylings. The stream is quite fast in the upper part, but it slows down a bit in the middle. In the middle and in the lowest part there are also some gigantic huchos (hucho hucho). Day 8: DEPARTURE after breakfast.

Getting there... By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it (check details here). From the airport you can travel to Kranjska Gora by bus (change once in Kranj, takes about 3 hrs) or book our transfer (faster): 60 EUR per person, two persons minimum. Transfers need to be ordered when booking the trip. By train: nearest railway station is in Jesenice on the Villach - Ljubljana mainline, then take a local bus (about 45 minutes) or order our transfer 20 EUR per person, two persons minimum. By car: take exit Karavanke from the A1 motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, Karavanke and then follow signposts to Kranjska Gora. From the motorway Villach - Venice, take exit Tarvisio in Italy or exit Villach West in Austria.
... and away By plane: need to get to the airport? Our transfer to Ljubljana airport: return to the airport from Bohinj - 55 EUR per person, two persons minimum. By train: Bohinj has a railway station at Bohinjska Bistrica, 5km from your last hotel. It is on the Jesenice - Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day. By car: if your car is in Kranjska Gora, you can get there by local bus (change once in Lesce, travel time is around 2 hrs) or we can transfer you for 55 € per person, two persons minimum.
