A dog-friendly walking holiday for fans of alpine scenery and panoramic vistas. The highlights of this walk are the famous Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, along with Mt. Triglav National Park. Day 1: ARRIVAL in PODKOREN / Kranjska Gora. Located close to the famous ski resort of Kranjska Gora, the alpine village of Podkoren is the starting point for this tour. You will spend your first night here with the mighty western Julian Alps as your backdrop (*** village hotel).
Day 2: PODKOREN - KRANJSKA GORA – JASNA VALLEY – PODKOREN - Alpine terrain walk 20km round trip / ascent 300m. (*** hotel). Your warm-up walk will take you through the Jasna valley, emerging at the other end in the glorious mountain area of the Prisank and Razor Mountains. Upon return, you can visit the “Russian Chapel” a touching monument dedicated to the Russian POWs who died during WW1 while building the military road over Vršič Pass. Return to Podkoren through Kranjska Gora ski resort.
Day 3: PODKOREN – TRIPLE BORDER POINT 19km / ascent 640m. (*** village hotel). Alpine terrain walk. Today's walk takes you to a breathtaking viewpoint from the triple border point where Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet at the summit of Mt. Peč (1508 m). Here you get an unbridled view across the Julian and Carnian Alps, backed by Hohe Tauern, the highest alpine range in Austria. The trail then descends through the valley to the source of the mighty Sava River, the longest in Slovenia, and back to Podkoren.
Day 4: RADOVNA VALLEY – VINTGAR GORGE – LAKE BLED 11km / ascent 200m. (**** hotel). Valley & meadow walk. Today you'll walk through Radovna valley, an untouched wilderness between the Pokljuka and Mežakla plateaus. You'll be dropped off at the start of the stunning 1.6km Vintgar Gorge, carved 150m deep into the canyon. The trail leads along a wooden walkway through the gorge and onwards to the world-famous Bled Lake, via the lovely Katarina Church viewpoint. Your hotel overlooks the lake.
Day 5: BLED – BOHINJSKA BELA – LAKE BLED 11km round trip / ascent 270m. (**** hotel). Hillsides and panoramic walk. A leisurely stroll into Bled today, a popular town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake, with its medieval castle standing guard over the exclusive island church from the edge of the lakeside cliff. For the best photos and views of the lake and Karavanke range, ascend Straža hill. End the day with the local speciality - the cream cake "Kremšnita" - in one of the great little tea shops beside the lake.
Day 6: POKLJUKA – USKOVNICA SADLE – LAKE BOHINJ 12km / ascent 200m. (**** hotel). Mountain meadows & tree line walk. Starting on the Pokljuka Plateau, you will hike across mountain pastures and past rustic farmhouses to a viewing point into the beautiful Bohinj Valley. As you descend, you can stop at the little historic village of Studor and see how people lived 150 years ago. Your final destination is Lake Bohinj, a true gem in the heart of the Triglav National Park.
Day 7: LAKE BOHINJ 13km. Lakeside and valley walk (**** hotel). Spend the day strolling around this wonderful, peaceful alpine lake sitting in the shadows of the immense mountains of the Julian Alps. Swim in its crystal water. Try the delicious Bohinj trout. At the western end of the lake it is a short hike up to Savica Waterfall, the source of the lake. Then you can take the cable car up to the 1532m high Vogel Mountain for a spectacular view of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps. Spend the evening in one of the cozy village pubs and try the local home-made honey brandy.
Day 8: DEPARTURE after breakfast.

Starting point of this trip is Kranjska Gora in NW Slovenia, at the Slovene / Austrian / Italian border.
Getting there... By plane: closest airport is Ljubljana (LJU). Several airlines serve it (check details here). From the airport you can travel to Podkoren by bus (change once in Kranj, takes about 3 hrs) or book our transfer (faster): 50 EUR per person, two persons minimum. Transfers need to be ordered when booking the trip. By train: nearest railway station is in Jesenice on the Villach - Ljubljana mainline, then take a local bus (about 45 minutes) or order our transfer 20 EUR per person, two persons minimum. By car: take exit Karavanke from the A1 motorway Ljubljana - Jesenice, Karavanke and then follow signposts to Kranjska Gora. From the motorway Villach - Venice, take exit Tarvisio in Italy or exit Villach West in Austria. There is a free but unguarded parking lot in Podkoren.
... and away By plane: need to get to the airport? Our transfer to Ljubljana airport: return to the airport from Bohinj - 45 EUR per person, two persons minimum. By train: Bohinj has a railway station at Bohinjska Bistrica, 5 km from your last hotel. It is on the Jesenice - Nova Gorica sideline, only a few trains a day. By car: if your car is in Podkoren, you can get there by local bus (change once in Lesce, travel time is around 2 hrs) or we can transfer you for 45 € per person, two persons minimum.
Guest Pets may weigh no more than 50 kilograms. Maximum of one dog per guestroom. Pet must be kept on a leash and have proper supervision at all times when outside of your guestroom. Please call hotel front desks to schedule service to your room. Your pet must be removed from guestroom during room cleaning service. Housekeeping hours are 8:00 am to 4:00. Any waste must be removed and disposed of immediately. Please keep noise to a minimum as a courtesy to all hotel guests. Pets must be kept in a portable kennel or carrier when left unattended in your guestroom. Pets are not permitted in pool areas, restaurants and lounges, on lobby furniture or in meeting / function spaces.
