Hike the highest peak of Julian Alps
Triglav - "the three headed mountain" is Slovenia's highest peak and number one national symbol. Tradition says that every true Slovene must climb it at least once in their lifetime. Be one of our proud guests and conquer this mountain with us, and we’ll grant you this honorary title!
This is neither a walk nor a hike: it is a climb. There are via ferrata sections on day 3, so you will need to use your hands too. Not suitable for anyone suffering from vertigo, nor for children under 16 years old. In accordance with our "Safety First Policy" we only offer it as a guided tour.
As a pre-trip, you may consider our Slovene Alpine Pearls tour!
Itinerary
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN BLED
Bled is a popular town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake with a combination of natural wonders and unique culture and history. Take a stroll around the lake and visit its unique island church and medieval castle perched high upon a towering precipice.
DAY 2: POKLJUKA – PLANIKA/KREDARICA HUT (6 hrs, ↔ 12 km, ↑ 1,170 m, ↓ 390 m)
Today it's into the heart of the Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps. The trail slowly ascends to Vodnikov Dom hut, amid the glorious views of Mt. Triglav (Slovenia's highest mountain (2864 m)), and its neighbouring peaks. You will spend the night at Planika or Kredarica hut, right underneath Triglav.
Day 3: PLANIKA HUT – TOP OF MT. TRIGLAV - VODNIKOV DOM (4 hrs, ↔ 6.3 km, ↑ 610 m, ↓ 1,150 m)
Time to climb to the top of Mt. Triglav, towering high above Planika Hut. This is best done very early in the morning so you can enjoy the first rays of light as the sunrise bathes the beautiful landscape of Slovenia in warm, soft morning light. After the traditional baptism, receiving the honour for climbing the "Three Headed Mountain " and thus becoming a true Slovene, you will start your descent. A short stop for lunch at Kredarica hut and you'll head for your day's destination - Vodnikov dom overlooking Bohinj Valley.
Day 4: VODNIKOV DOM – KORITA MOSTNICE GORGE – RIBČEV LAZ (4 hrs, ↔ 14 km, ↑ 430 m, ↓ 1,720 m)
Descending in a southerly direction you will reach the unspoiled and untouched Voje Valley. Its beautiful natural gem is Mostnice Gorge, where the Mostnica River has cut a deep and narrow riverbed into limestone hillsides forming a gorge 15 metres deep in some places. Stop for a moment at the Devils' Bridge and read about the legend connected to it. End your day enjoying a great view of Bohinj Lake at sunset.
Day 5: DEPARTURE
After breakfast or extension of your stay.
You may wish to continue hiking onward over our Goldhorn Trail!
Note that tour program might be changed in case of bad weather.
