Due to uneven terrain and occasional wet sections, sturdy footwear is recommended. Spring and early summer are considered the best times to visit, when river levels are high and the surrounding vegetation is at its most vibrant.

Practical information & how to get there

Tolmin Gorges are easily accessible by car from the town of Tolmin, where clear signposting leads to the main entrance. Parking is available close to the trailhead, making this walk a convenient stop when exploring the Soča Valley or travelling through western Slovenia. During the main season, entrance tickets are required and can be purchased on site or online.

The walking route is circular and well maintained, with wooden walkways, bridges and secured paths along the canyon walls. While the trail is not technically demanding, some sections can be slippery after rain, so proper walking shoes are recommended. Families with older children will find the walk enjoyable, while visitors should note that pushchairs are not suitable for the gorge paths.

You can visit Tolmin Gorges on our trips cycling tours Vistas & Wines, National Park Ring MTB and hiking Juliana Trail Southeast & Juliana Trail Northwest.

After exploring the gorge, continue your journey with our walking tours in Slovenia and enjoy flexible, self-guided hikes through some of the country’s most stunning and varied landscapes.

Located in the heart of Triglav National Park, near the town of Tolmin, Tolmin Gorges are one of Slovenia’s most impressive natural attractions.
