They were mesmerized by what they found \u2014 deep emerald waters, thunderous rapids, and walls of limestone rising nearly 100 meters high.<\/p>\n Inspired by the discovery, the two men worked tirelessly to make the gorge accessible to visitors. In 1893, after the construction of wooden bridges and walkways, Vintgar Gorge officially opened to the public<\/strong>.
