Activity holiday for whole family in Slovenia

A centrally-based series of walks all starting from the city of Bovec and on the turquoise waters of the Soča / Isonzo river. Our trails area is specially designed for families and can take you on historic monuments, alpine pastures lined with wildflowers and underneath the cascading waterfalls to lovely hidden springs. Enjoy a swim in alpine pool and marvel at the clear turquoise waters of the glacial Soca. All enclosed in the arena of western Julian Alps.

Suitable for hikers of average fitness and ideal for families who don't want the hassle of having to move accommodation everyday. 

Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN BOVEC

Soča Valley's capital, the city of Bovec, offers lots for hiking enthusiasts. With the Julian Alps around, the Soča below and Triglav Park all around, you can enjoy the the walks in this fresh nature site, while not ever doing identical walk twice. Bovec is a pleasant city which makes a great base for your outside activities.

TOUR A: (car transfer) BOVEC – MOŽNICA CANYON – KLUŽE FORTRESS – BOVEC (intermediate, 3 hrs, ↔ 7 km, ↑ 70 m, ↓ 160 m) 

A morning transfer brings you to the start line of your walk – entrance to Kluze defensive fortress, designed over a century ago to block access to Southern Austria. it's survived all later wars and is currently a formidable anti-war exhibitions. The path passes by the remains of the many once mighty fortifications. 

TOUR B: BOVEC – VIRJE WATERFALL – BOVEC (easy, 3 hrs, ↔ 11 km, ↑↓ 210 m)

A relaxing stroll brings you to the western part of Bovec, the theme is pure water. A lively stream with hardly impossibly pronounceable name, Gljun, is fed from the large cave of the sedimentary rock underground world of Kanin . Depending on the weather and season, its waters tumble down a 30-foot falls before joining the Soca. The going back to Bovec takes you over broad meadows resplendent with summer flowers, whose background is dominated by the “Slovene Matterhorn” Mt. Svinjak.

TOUR C: BOVEC - LEPENA VALLEY – TRENTA VALLEY (intermediate, 4 hrs, ↔ 10 km, ↑ 120 m, ↓ 210 m)

After a brief transfer, today's walk takes you to the "Queen of the Alpine Waters" – the turquoise-coloured riverbeds of Soca / Isonzo River. Its breathless colors have wowed several walkers and water sportsmen for hundreds of years. Follow the path on the watercourse, relish the views of the steep sedimentary rock canon and take a refreshing dip in one in all the cool pools.

TOUR D: BOVEC – KANIN – BOVEC (easy, 3 hrs, ↔ 9 km, ↑ 50 m, ↓ 530 m)

Take a scenic lift ride up to Mt. Kanin. From the highest station of the lift, 970 m asl, there's an incredible viewpoint of the Bovec basin, Slovene and Italian mountain ranges and glimmering waters of Soča River. The walk crosses beautiful mountain pastures lined with wildflowers and an occasional sheep farm.

TOUR E: BOVEC – SRPENICA – ČEZSOČA – BOVEC (easy, 4 hrs, ↔ 15 km, ↑ 280 m, ↓ 190 m)

Car transfer to village Srpenica. From this quaint very little village, and crossing the 63 m-long hanging “Bridge of lovers”, you walk on the right bank of watercourse back to Bovec. The rivers bend is additionally the most effective spot to observe the massive Boka waterfall. The water is fed from underground caves deep at intervals reaches a height of a hundred meters. Take lunch in one in all the popular native "gostilnas" pubs in Čezsoča and head back to Bovec.

There is one walking-day-off. You can dedicate it to relaxing or go and join one Bovec of many other sporting activities: canyoning, rafting, paragliding, zip-lining...

Starting point of this trip is Bovec in NW Slovenia.

Getting there...

By plane: closest airports are Trieste (TST) in Italy, Ljubljana (LJU) and Klagenfurt (KLA) in Austria. Several airlines serve them. From all of them you need a local transfer, travel times are approximately 90 min, please ask us for the transfer price.

By train: closest stations are Most na Soči in Slovenia and Tarvisio Boscoverde in Italy, in both cases a transfer takes 45 min, please check with us for costs of relevant transfers from these railway stations to Bovec.

By bus: Flixbus stops at Tarvisio, Italy

By car: take closest exit on Italian motorway A23 Alpe-Adria Venice - Vienna. Exit Tarvisio. From here take the road over Predil Pass to Bovec, 30 kms, nice scenic road!. Your car can be parked for free at your hotel for duration of our tour.
