The booking is confirmed. The dates are in the diary, the accommodation is arranged, and the route is taking shape on your phone. But an email confirmation cannot tell us whether you are comfortable using the navigation. It cannot notice that you are unsure about tomorrow’s luggage transfer, or give you a chance to ask the question you thought was too small to send.
For us, personal hiking holidays in Slovenia begin with a conversation before the first step. Most guests meet someone from our local team before setting off. We introduce ourselves, ask where you have travelled from, and get to know the person who will be walking the route we have prepared.
There is practical work to do. There is also someone to welcome.
Personal hiking holidays in Slovenia start with a welcome
Our welcome meeting starts quite simply: introductions, a question about your journey, a few words about the days ahead. Have you been to Slovenia before? What are you looking forward to? Is there anything about the route you would like to discuss?
The answers help us understand your expectations. You may have enjoyed several self-guided hiking holidays and want to clarify one stage. You may be doing this for the first time and wondering how everything works once we wave goodbye.
We make room for both kinds of questions, with someone there to listen and explain.
Together, we review your travel documents and the practical details: where you are staying, how luggage transfers work, and anything important about the start or finish of a stage. We point out sections that deserve attention and explain what to expect along the way.
We also check that the explanation makes sense. A document can be complete and still leave someone uncertain. Sometimes a look at the map resolves it. Sometimes we explain something again. That is part of the preparation.
Open the route together
We look at the maps with you and check Guibo, or the navigation provided for your tour, before departure.
Having a route on your phone is useful. Knowing how to use it matters when you reach a fork in the path.
Together, we open the route, review the instructions and show you how to follow your position using GPS. Then you try it yourself: opening the stage and finding the information you will need without someone pointing at the screen.
We check that everything works before you leave and answer any questions. Something can seem obvious during a demonstration and less obvious a moment later.
You do not need to know everything before you arrive. Personal hiking holidays in Slovenia give you independence; a clear briefing helps you use it with confidence.
A few practical questions about your kit
Before you set off, we talk about the equipment you have brought and whether it suits your chosen walk.
Are your shoes suitable for the paths ahead? Is your daypack comfortable? Do you have protection from the rain and clothing for the conditions you may encounter? A walk through a valley and a day higher in the mountains call for different preparation.
This is a conversation, not an inspection. You know what you are comfortable wearing; we know the route and can point out where something more suitable may be needed.
If an essential item is missing, or a piece of equipment seems unsuitable, we say so and discuss what to do before you leave. It is easier to address a question beside an open backpack than halfway through a wet afternoon.
You know who is behind the journey
By now, you have met someone from HikingSlovenia. There is a name to go with the phone number and a face behind the arrangements.
You know whom to call if you need help: someone from the local team supporting your trip, who understands the route and its logistics. You are not starting again with an anonymous call centre.
We also know a little about you—where you have come from, what you hope to enjoy, perhaps something you were concerned about. That helps if you call later.
We do not think of this as an extra service. It is simply how we welcome a guest.
When you start your first kilometre of walking, we want you to know three things: where you are going, how you will find your way, and whom you can call if you need something.
Then you can turn your attention to Slovenia.
