Itinerary
Your Three Lakes Walk begins in Kranjska Gora, a picturesque Alpine town surrounded by the Julian Alps. Explore its streets, visit local cafes, and enjoy traditional Slovenian cuisine. Kranjska Gora is also known for the Vršič Pass, a scenic route ideal for photography and mountain enthusiasts. Prepare for the upcoming days of the Three Lakes Walk, which will take you through Slovenia’s most iconic alpine lakes and hiking trails.
Start your Three Lakes Walk at Lake Jasna, famous for its crystal-clear waters and panoramic views of the Julian Alps. The trail continues through Jasna Valley, passing the Russian Chapel, a poignant World War I memorial. Enjoy alpine meadows, local wildlife, and blooming wildflowers in spring. Hiking here offers a mix of nature and history, making it an ideal part of any self-guided hiking tour in Slovenia
Hike through the Radovna Valley, flanked by soaring mountain peaks. Continue to the dramatic Vintgar Gorge, a 1.6 km canyon with turquoise waters and wooden walkways. End the day at Lake Bled, known worldwide for its island church and Bled Castle. Paddle to the island or photograph the castle from the lakeshore. This segment is a highlight of the Three Lakes Walk, showcasing both nature and Slovenian cultural heritage.
Begin at the scenic Pokljuka Plateau, trekking past traditional farmhouses and alpine pastures. Reach a viewpoint overlooking Bohinj Valley, then descend to Studor village before arriving at Lake Bohinj, he largest natural lake in Slovenia, located in Triglav National Park. Enjoy the peaceful environment, photograph the mountains, or take a refreshing swim. This day exemplifies the best of a self-guided Julian Alps hiking tour, offering both adventure and serenity.
After breakfast, check out from Lake Bohinj. Hikers can extend their adventure via the Goldhorn Trail or explore additional Julian Alps hiking tours. Reflect on your Three Lakes Walk, a unique 5-day journey combining Slovenia’s alpine lakes, cultural landmarks, and self-guided hiking freedom.

2/4
Hiking tour. Daily distances increase on some days and the terrain may be rugged underfoot with some hills but not too strenuous. Perfect for those with a relatively good level of fitness. The average sum of all daily ascents is between 100 m and 400 meters.
This is a collection of easy valley floor and forest-covered hillside walks. Though in an alpine area, no climbing experience or equipment is necessary. The route passes through the most well-known Slovene alpine towns and villages; more than half of the walks are done within the central area of Slovenia’s unique national park.
